One of the most common shareable items on popular social media sites are quotes. Some are bible verses, excerpts from successful people’s published statements or simply any random lines. If you’re the one who share interesting quotes, possibly you just want to spread the good vibes or capture attention. However, several reports claimed that just sharing inspirational quotes on social media could be a sign of low intelligence.
Mirror reported that the study called “On the reception and detection of pseudo-profound bulls**t” revealed that people who share inspirational quotes are the gullible ones and follow superstitious beliefs. Apart from these, they also most likely to have below average intelligence. The study involved asking 845 volunteers to analyze profound and impressive quotes, but subliminally not serious thoughts.
“Our results support the idea that some people are more receptive to this type of bulls**t and that detecting it is not merely a matter of indiscriminate skepticism but rather a discernment of deceptive vagueness in otherwise impressive sounding claims,” cognitive psychologist Gordon Pennycook said in an interview with Mirror.

Meantime, Elite Daily shared that successful people like your friends are the most likely not keen on posting inspirational quotes. The report written by Paul Hudson, an entrepreneur and philosopher, explained that majority of achievers are busy and the silent types. Furthermore, they usually write and reads than to copy and paste quotes. Hudson added those just posting all motivational quotes are still far from their dreams as possibly they also the least contemplating what they share.
“Your world and perspective is being rewritten by your own hand. Successful individuals know the importance of reading and writing. The only reason that less of them do so then you may expect is because they’re likely already rather close to who they wished they’d become,” Hudson shared.
