While these perks are great, it’s usually not what people are primarily looking for when they are searching for a “dream job”. Over 80% of American’s believe that there is an ideal job for every person, and that this ideal job will lead to complete career happiness and satisfaction.
So what matters most to employees when searching for a dream job? HighGround a company that makes employee engagement software, did some research into dream jobs and found some interesting takeaways about what people would sacrifice to obtain their dream job and what companies are doing to lure dream job seekers.
They found that while trendy office perks are great incentives, dream job seekers value professional development over more general perks. Professional development opportunities will leave employees not only more satisfied with their jobs. 90% of employees report than an organization’s overall commitment to professional development is very important to them.
That is not to say you should not offer perks and benefits as they also play an important role. Interestingly enough, 79% of employees surveyed reported they would prefer benefits and perks to a pay raise. This is especially true with women and younger employees. Some examples of perks that employees are most looking for include:
- Encouraged professional development
- Job-specific training programs
- Unlimited PTO
- Profit-sharing
- Gym membership and other employee wellness plans
- Paid Holiday time off
- Recreation at the office
- Stocked drinks and food
