How Maintain Health and Wellness at Work

Maintaining personal health and wellness is something that executives should put priority. Despite the demands and stress of work, we need to be in shape physically and psychologically in order to keep up with the tasks not only on our workplace but also on our home.

Here are some tips on how to promote health and wellness to your workplace:

Physical Health and Wellness

  1. If possible, try walking or biking to get to your place. Then take the stairs instead of the elevator. Walking, biking, and climbing stairs is a good cardio exercise. It’s better to have a little work out every day than to have no exercise at all.
  2. If your work requires long hours of standing, wear a support hose, medium heels, and at least 15 minutes of taking a rest. But if the case is otherwise, (long hours of sitting) stand and stretch your body at least every hour to keep that blood circulating properly and avoid varicosities.
  3. Paper works cause stress to the eyes and hands. Take small breaks by closing and opening your palms and rest your eyes by shutting them for a few seconds.
  4. Maintain good posture either when sitting or standing.
  5. Form a small group at your office and have a five minute “mini Zumba” break every day.
  6. Don’t forget to take a bladder break to avoid infections and other complications of ignoring the urge to go to the bathroom.
  7. Avoid skipping meals as much as possible, eat crackers and drink fluids if you don’t yet have time for lunch (or dinner).
  8. Eat fruits, vegetables (carrot, celery, cucumber) nuts, as your snack and start avoiding junk foods.
  9. Don’t forget personal hygiene no matter how busy you are. Bring toiletries to your workplace (toothbrush etc). You can avoid possible health problems by observing simple personal hygiene measures such as brushing your teeth.

Psychological and Emotional Health and Wellness

Try to have a healthy and professional working relationship with your officemates by following simple tips:

  1. Negative thoughts and emotions must be kept within yourself and share your courage and positivity to others.
  2. Self-help groups. Talk about each other’s concerns about work without judging anyone. Also, TALK ABOUT YOURSELVES AMONG YOURSELVES and never talk about an individual when he/she is not present in the group. Save yourself from a lot of trouble and stress by not talking about other person’s lives.
  3. When you have an issue or concern about a workmate, talk directly to that person.
