
Filipino Tech Lawyer passes away
Senior Privacy Counsel for Google Asia-Pacific Claro “Lalen” Parlade has passed away to lymphoma or cancer of the lymph nodes.
Parlade, who was based in Singapore, was a member of the UP College of Law Class of 1989. He came from a family of lawyer, and took his Masters of Law at York University, specializing in alternative dispute resolution, from 2005 to 2007.
He got his start in tech law when became a Hubert Humphrey Fellow for IT Law and Policy from 1999 to 2000.
Aside from Google, Parlade also served as director for software policy for Asia-Pacific at Business Software Alliance
He was also the executive director for Cyberspace Policy Center for Asia-Pacific and former chairman for legal and regulatory committee of the IT and E-Commerce Council of the Philippines.
He was also active in local IT organizations as he served as vice-president of the IT Association of the Philippines and vice-president of the Philippine Computer Emergency
