Career Transition Tips During During The Pandemic | Making a big decision like changing your career can seem like a daunting task, especially during a pandemic. The reality is that this is actually one of the best times to take on any drastic life shift like going for a new job or field. While some may argue that it is better to play it safe, save money, and wait till retirement, that may not even be possible for a lot of people.

Since the start of last year, the entire globe has faced one of the greatest economic shutdowns in modern history. With that, many people lost their jobs or underwent hefty pay cuts. So with so much less to lose, and with so many people re-entering the market, it’s time to start considering other options.

Career transition tips

The beauty of this moment in time is that it creates a forced reset, a chance to recreate ourselves and to become more flexible in how we go about professional pursuits. The first thing you want to do is understand what the most valued jobs are right now. Whatever they may be, they are likely to stick around given their resilience to grow and to withstand the worst economic instability of today’s time.

In order to make sure you not only go for what you truly want and also see that it’s carried out, set a goal for yourself. The goal needs to feel aligned with your interests, have a clear plan of action, while still maintaining a certain level of flexibility for you to adapt to any unexpected things that may come up along the way.

Below is a four-step process to help you nail down exactly what it is you want and how to go about it.

Steps to making a career transition plan

Find your purpose, passion and strengths

What drives you? What makes you happy? What are you passionate about? What are some of your innate strengths? These are all driving questions you can ask yourself in order to better understand what it is that you actually want.

Think both big and small

Is there anything you would like to change about your schedule? What about the way you interact with people? This is the time to consider every facet of your life, and see what you want to keep and what needs to go. Becoming very clear with what you desire your life to look like will allow you to design your life in a way that provides the most optimal amount of fulfillment.

Stay open and keep learning

When one door closes, another door opens. Once you have a clear idea of what you want, keep an open mind about how you will reach this goal. The possibilities are endless, and the more flexibility you allow into your plan, the easier it will be to achieve it.

It can be easy to develop a subconscious attachment to how something will occur, but the truth is that this only creates rigidity and further resistance towards seeing how what you desire may actually happen in a totally different way.

Be the interviewer

Have an idea, but not sure what it’s actually going to look like in real life? Talk to the people who do. Whether you are considering working in a large corporation, or becoming a life coach, it doesn’t matter. Asking questions about what their day at work is like, what they had to do to obtain their current position, and any challenges they faced, are all great starting points to go off of.

The key is to not be shy about reaching out and asking the questions that will help you make the best decision for your own plan. You can do this during an interview, or you can reach out and request a 15 minute conversation. People love to talk about themsel
