6 Things You Need to Know About NDIS Providers

Executive Chronicles | 6 Things You Need to Know About NDIS Providers | Sydney is one of the largest cities in Australia. It is situated on the southeastern coast of Australia. With its strategic position and stunning harbour, Sydney is considered one of the most important South Pacific ports. It was the British who founded Sydney, and a large portion of its residents are British. As of 2020, Sydney has an estimated population of more than 5 million. And perhaps some of these residents may have disabilities who require ndis providers in Sydney.

It is currently estimated that more than 4 million Australians have disabilities, based on the data from the federal government. These people need assistance. That is why the legislation created the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in 2013. About 310,000 Australians have already participated in the NDIS as of November 2019. What is NDIS all about, what it pays for, and who will be eligible for it.

What is the NDIS?

NDIS is a scheme funded by the federal government. It aims to provide financial support to people with certain disabilities, which can be physical, cognitive, intellectual, sensory, or psychosocial. It also offers to fund early intervention support for kids who have shown developmental delay. By the time it will be fully operational, the government anticipates that NDIS will support 460,000 Australians with disabilities.

What Does the NDIS Pay For?

The NDIS will provide support funding to people with disabilities based on their essential needs such as transport and mobility, day to day personal activities, household tasks, access to education and work, etc. Some examples of the things that the NDIS will fund include speech pathology, wheelchairs, and healthy meals. NDIS will fund these three types of support budgets.

The Core Supports Budget

It includes consumables, day-to-day activities, low-cost equipment for improving mobility, transport, and social and community participation.

The Capacity Building Budget

It includes helping these people achieve their goals in education, health, employment, living arrangements, and relationships.

The Capital Support Budget

This fund will be used for upgrades in the home, including setting up a ramp in the home or a handrail in the bathroom and assistive technologies, including vehicle transformations or wheelchairs.

Who Can Avail NDIS?

You can be eligible for NDIS if you are a permanent resident of Australia, a special-category visa holder who resides in Australia and an Australian citizen. Furthermore, you must be between seven and 65 years old and suffer from a permanent and significant disability. According to the guideline of NDIS, a person who has a permanent and significant disability is a person who requires the use of special equipment or the help of another person or needs support to lessen their future needs. For more eligibility information, you can check the NDIS website.

How to Apply for NDIS Funding?

Based on the NDIS website, if you think that you can qualify, then the first thing that you need to do is to call NDIA at 1800 800 110 since they are the ones who handle this scheme. Inform them that you want to make an Access-Request. Upon calling, you have to confirm your identity. To check your residency and eligibility, they will be asking you a few questions. If you are currently obtaining disability support services, then NDIA will inform you when you can get your NDIS funding if it is not yet available in your area. There are a lot of ndis providers in Sydney you can find online.

Having some knowledge about NDIS can be a big help to those people who have a disability.
