Being busy is mistakenly regarded as being productive. But it’s not. Being busy is just banging on the computer, taking all the stress without a clear goal.
Being productive is doing sensible things that make you closer to your goal.
In an organization, there are things that you should delegate to other people so that you can focus on more important tasks:
TASK SCHEDULING
You can make your own personal schedule if you are a regular employee. But if you are on top management, it is better if you have someone to do it for you.
To make sure you are ready for presentations, meetings and training, hire a personal assistant. You can also hire a virtual assistant who can make a report for you.
Delegate this task so that you can focus on being a productive leader and manager.
PRIMARY RESEARCH
Research is important in a business and even in organizations. But it doesn’t mean that you have to go through painstaking details of research.
Have someone to do the basic research and feed you with important bits of information that you need. Do not research for the sake of being busy. Entertain only the crucial information you need to be productive and achieve your goal. There is no harm in low information diet.
SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN
If you are just starting a business you can do social media marketing by yourself. But if you are the head of a large corporation or organization, better leave the social media to someone else.
Find someone who can do it better than you. The social media campaign is time-consuming and can make you lose your focus. It makes you busy without being productive as well.
ACCOUNTING
If you are a business owner, it is important that you are up to date with what happens in the financial aspect of your business. But if you are managing an entire department or organization, you better get some help with financial accounting.
Hire someone you can trust and who knows that twist and turns of the financial aspect of your department.
PRESENTATION AND FORMATTING
An excellent and presentable document can take a lot of time to do. You can compose the document or a presentation. Delegate the formatting and designing to someone else.
Lastly, delegating doesn’t mean that you have to give the person the full authority. You just have someone to help or assist you with a certain task. You just have to learn how to discern tasks which can be delegated or not.
